Here at Hillsound Equipment in Canada we work hard to design and make awesome products for outdoor enthusiasts. This year we’ve introduced a new stretch gaiter line under the Armadillo brand and a new urban and light hiking crampon called the FreeSteps6. We’ve gotten lots of buzz from bloggers and loyal fans. We are ecstatic to see some recognition from one of the industry leaders. Backpacker Magazine’s Fall/Winter 2012 Gear Guide has given our stretch Super Armadillo Nano gaiter a rave review.

Backpacker says the Super Armadillo Nano stretch gaiter “keeps it all out.”  You might ask, “What else do I need from a gaiter?” Well, fortunately we have an answer. And so does Backpacker. The magazine’s reviewer goes on to say the gaiter has a “clean, contoured fit.” They also praised the use of high-tech Schoeller c_change fabric, which we use on the upper. The lower portion of the gaiter uses SuperFabric and “deflected errant crampon points like chain mail.”

Maybe even Mitt Romney might take a liking to our “chain mail” gaiters. He can use them with his horses and bayonets. Let us know what you think of our gaiters!

Despite what many people think, Canada is not always cold. We’ve had a two-month warm and sometimes hot spell all the way into October. But the past week or so, the evenings have been getting colder and the wind is getting crisper. The leaves are falling and crunchy on the ground. Fall is definitely here, which means winter and snow is soon to follow.

At the end of last year’s season, some of us here in the Hillsound office were able to sneak out one Friday afternoon for some “product testing”. These are my favorite days in the office at Hillsound. We were able to spend some time testing the performance of some new crampon technology and fine-tuning a few designs on our Armadillo gaiters.

I hope you enjoy a selection of photos from our “day at the office” last Spring. We’re looking forward to another day like this soon.

Here at Hillsound we are super excited to see that one of Canada’s premiere adventure magazines gave us an incredible endorsement. Explore Magazine says the Super Armadillo Nano gaiters “fix a few of the issues that have driven us nuts over the years.” They’ve praised the design, the fit and the Schoeller technology used in the fabric.
